FAQ

AI in the maritime industry — your questions, answered.

Straight answers on AI training and adoption for shipping companies, ship managers and crews — the investment, your data, how it works, ashore and on board. If yours isn't here, just ask.

What does AI goes Maritime do?
AI goes Maritime helps the maritime industry put AI to work — real, hands-on AI strategy, training and adoption for everyone working in and around shipping. We don't inflict a revolution. We work by a simple principle — the aggregation of small gains: start small, learn, advance. Small changes in the everyday that quietly add up. That's what takes the fear, the hesitation and the overwhelm out of AI — it slips into the workday bit by bit instead of taking over, so nobody freezes up or digs in against it. Our flagship programme, AI Onboarding, builds the skills, the guardrails and the confidence so your people actually use AI — not just nod through another webinar.
Who is AI goes Maritime for?
It's built for the maritime industry, ashore and at sea — for management and leadership, HR, crewing, technical, commercial, compliance, finance, QHSE, procurement…; and the seafarers on board who just want an hour of their day back. And it's for a certain kind of people: the ones who want real, lasting change — who want their business and their own skill set future-proof, who'd rather move than wait, who want to grow and take the head start while everyone else is still "thinking about it". The ones who are ready to take the first step.
Who are your customers?
AI goes Maritime works with shipping companies, ship managers, ships of all types — and the wider maritime world around them: agents, flag, class, vendors, ports, maritime academies, travel providers, training centres and many more. From small and mid-sized businesses to enterprise fleets, what our customers have in common isn't size — it's the will to move.
Where and how does it happen — online, on site, or on board?
Online, on site, or on board — whatever fits your team. Face-to-face is the most effective way to do this, but we know the maritime world doesn't always allow it, so we adapt to your preferences and work ashore, online or on board. And we don't waste your time: short, precise sessions to set the ground, then we work out the process around your input, bring it back so you sign it off, finalise it, and move into the training — followed by regular check-ins and further advancing sessions, if you want to progress further.
What's the investment?

Imagine saving every person on your team at least 2 hours a week — and trust us, it'll be a lot more than that. Run the numbers yourself: per week, per month, per year, per team, across your whole business. Efficient teamwork, an advanced knowledge base, aligned processes, empowered people with nearly unlimited options.

Your investment for these gains goes two ways. The AI Potential Workshop is €1,299* — three focused hours, online or on site, with a tailored map of your fastest AI wins. The full AI Onboarding programme starts at €14,900 per team* for small and mid-sized businesses; enterprise and fleet-wide scopes are defined and priced individually. And if you start with the workshop and go on to the programme, the entire workshop fee is credited — so it's less a cost, more a first step.

How fast do we see results, and how much of my team's time does it take?
Fast — and lighter than you'd think. The AI Potential Workshop gives you quick wins to act on the same week. In the full AI Onboarding programme, you'll see first real results in about two weeks. And the time it asks of your people is small: a handful of short, scheduled sessions — an hour here, an hour there — while we handle the design and the heavy lifting behind the scenes. No one gets pulled off the job, no vessel grinds to a halt. You keep running; the AI skills grow alongside.
Do my people need any tech or AI background?
None at all. If your team can use a smartphone and send an email, they're ready. We don't run computer-science lectures or drown anyone in jargon — we start from where each person is, on the real tasks they already do, and build from there. That's the whole point of the aggregation of small gains: it works for the curious and the sceptical alike, ashore and on board. No one gets left behind, and no one needs to "be a tech person" first.
Is this GDPR-compliant — what happens to our data?
Yes — data protection is where we start, not an afterthought. Here's the honest part: the real risk isn't AI itself, it's your people quietly pasting company or personal data into free, public chatbots with no rules. We fix exactly that. We set your team up in a proper business or enterprise AI environment — where your data stays yours, isn't used to train anyone's model, and sits behind encryption and a data processing agreement (DPA). Think of it like the cloud: what felt risky ten years ago is where your contracts already live today — enterprise AI runs on the same rails. So your people can work on real data instead of blanking everything out first. On top of that, we write clear guardrails — a green list, a never-paste list — and get them signed off by your leadership before anything goes live. We're not your lawyers, and compliance is always shared — but we build GDPR and the EU AI rules into how your team uses AI from day one, ashore and on board.
Do we need to buy new software or run an IT project?
No. No new platform to roll out, no year-long IT project, no transformation budget. AI works with the tools your team already uses every day. The only real setup is access to a proper business or enterprise AI environment — a subscription, not a server room — and we help you sort that. Everything else is people and process: small, focused steps that fit your existing workflows, ashore and on board. We recommend starting with the basics and building step by step — no sudden revolution to shock the system or overwhelm your people. That said, if and when you want to go further, we're right there with you — exploring the next options together with your team, your IT and whoever needs a seat at the table. Start small, scale when you're ready.

Who's behind AI goes Maritime — why trust you?

I'm Olga. Twenty-plus years in maritime HR, ashore and on board — but honestly? That's not why you'd trust me with AI.

Here's the truth: I didn't start as an expert. I started clueless. Just curious, and a bit stubborn — why shouldn't I be able to do this too? So I tried. I played. And the more I saw, the more I wanted. Back then there were barely any decent courses, so I paid good money for the ones that existed — and some were pure junk, sold by people who'd smelled a quick euro. I learned from those too: what not to do.

And it never stops. This isn't school, where you learn the basics and you're set — the possibilities grow exponentially, and half of what I learned last year is already old. That can scare you. But you know what's actually dangerous? Sticking your head in the sand. That's what quietly pushes a company — or a person — out of the game.

I use AI every day. I take the chances and the risks seriously. And my whole thing is simple: take the fear off the table and show you it's easier than you think to make AI work for you, not against you. If I could do it, so can you.
